Payment subsidies for therapy


Depending on your situation, therapy costs can become more manageable through full or partial subsidies.


Channels such as the Ministry Of Social Development, insurance providers, or the ACC ISSC may provide assistance in covering costs related to your therapy.

Ministry of Social Development

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) provides partial or full subsidies for therapy if you fulfill their income threshold requirements.

You can assess your eligibility and obtain an application to bring to your GP by referring to the information below.


Health Insurance

You have the option to examine your health insurance policy to determine if it includes coverage for funding clinical psychology services. For a quick overview of potential benefits under your existing policy, please see the following summary.

  • ULTRACARE POLICY
    Provides $600 per year for clinical psychology services.
    This is split into $150 per visit for up to 4 visits.


    The Wellbeing One and Two policies with the Keeping Well module added provide $100 per year for clinical psychology services.

  • PREMIUM EVERYDAY POLICY
    Provides $500 per year for clinical psychology consultations.


    STANDARD EVERYDAY POLICY
    Provides $350 per year for clinical psychology consultations.


    As such, these policies can be used to cover ADHD assessments but not therapy (as they only cover consultations).
    Clients must have held their policy for 6 months to be eligible.

ACC ISSC service

The Integrated Services for Sensitive Claims is a partial or full subsidy of therapy costs for those who have experienced sexual abuse.
